Seen Teens

Teens often get a bad rap from those of us who are no longer teens ourselves. But as a former middle- and high-school teacher, I have had the privilege of getting to know thousands of teens who have — day in and day out — stepped up to challenges and demonstrated the very best of our humanity. Often, they have done this in spite of the obstacles adults have — inadvertently or not — put in their way.

For many teens, making it to school is a major victory; if that is “all” they do most days, they are already triumphant over the circumstances they face at that point in life.  Many other teens, though, feel a call to act their way into something much bigger than themselves or their circumstances.  Sometimes it feels like mainstream media coverage doesn’t have room for these remarkable teens’ stories.  This corner of Trees Are My People is reserved for highlighting and celebrating the accomplishments of teens, particularly those that improve life for any and all beings.

You can find posts highlighting the contributions of teens by doing a “Seen Teens” category search on our blog. To nominate a teen whose good works you would like to see recognized, use the form below.

Take a look around.  Let teens know we see them and we see the good they are up to in the world.
